City of Tallahassee Seeks Input on TPD Site
Commercial brokers: Ready, set, go. The City of Tallahassee is seeking site proposals for the future location of its police station. Plans to vacate the current 7th Avenue location in Midtown are confirmed and long-standing, but the site where a new facility will be built is yet to be determined. The new police station was originally intended to be built at the corner of Orange Avenue and South Monroe, but fell through after contentious citizen input about the site and its selection process. If you have nine acres of land near the center of the city, you have until April 18th to submit a proposal.
That said, TLH Development will take this opportunity to implore those involved in the process to strongly consider proposals suggesting the use of public land. I took the time to submit a downtown proposal incorporating a mixture of city- and state-owned land. Another good proposal is a Southwest location at the corner of FAMU Way and Lake Bradford Road. Any option involving public land is good idea, especially when considering site acquisition/development costs.
Market Square Redevelopment Update
Northern Tallahassee folks have been waiting with baited breath for the redevelopment of Market Square to commence while the plaza sits in a lesser state than years prior. The developers, in their site plan, state their intent to demolish the existing pavilion and three buildings in the rear of the plaza. In their place, they'll construct a new retail building as well as the promised movie theater. The included site plan depicts the planned four story, 128-room hotel which will be adjacent to Timberlane Road.
VidaCann Opens a Dispensary in Midtown
VidaCann, a Jacksonville-based nursery, has opened one of its Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers in Tallahassee with a grand opening date tentatively set for May 4th. They have been operating in the agricultural industry since 1958 and provide an expansive line of organic CBD and THC products. The dispensary can be visited at 1212 North Monroe by legally prescribed MMJ patients.
Independence Landing Site Plan Released
Independence Landing, a planned residential community for adults with intellectual and cognitive disabilities, has submitted new details on what the development will look like. The project will be multi-phased, and proposes the construction of 52 units and a staff building in Phase 1. The site plan shows multiple buildings wrapping around the facility, and an adjacent pond with a walking trail.
